Broadalbin man charged after leaving crash scene

BROADALBIN, NY – Early Saturday morning state police arrested a
33-year-old Broadalbin man for felony DWI after leaving the scene of an auto
accident.

Robert M. Cannizzaro faces multiple felony charges after troopers
responded to a 911 report of a dark pickup truck being involved in a
hit-and-run auto accident on Ridge Road in the Town of Broadalbin. While
enroute to Ridge Road, troopers spotted a pickup truck matching the description
provided by their dispatch point and initiated a traffic stop. Upon approaching
the pickup truck, they observed that it was severely damaged. Troopers also
noticed that the vehicle was covered in tree debris.

Cannizzaro admitted that he drank 4 to 5 beers before troopers stopped his
vehicle on State Route 29 in Broadalbin.

Troopers charged Cannizzaro with felony DWI, felony aggravated unlicensed
operation of a motor vehicle, leaving the scene of a property damage accident,
and several other Vehicle and Traffic Law violations.

Cannizzaro was arraigned
this morning before Judge Gilston in the Village of Broadalbin Court and
released on his own recognizance.
