ALBANY, N.Y. – Governor Andrew Cuomo and state legislative
leaders hosted the state's first ever Disabled Veterans Summit.
Cuomo announced the state's agreement on legislation that
would award six percent of all state contracts to companies owned by service
disabled veterans. The agreement also establishes a program that will set aside
contracts for those small businesses.
No other state has such a program. The goal of six percent
doubles the federal government's goal of awarding three percent.
Cuomo said it's art of New York's commitment to its nearly
one million veterans. The agreement is expected to create tens of thousands of
jobs for veterans across New York State.
