Hoosic Valley boys and girls bball teams in state championships

SCHAGHTICOKE, N.Y. – Both the boys and girls basketball teams
at Hoosic Valley High School have the chance to play for the Class C State

They're each other's biggest fans.

“I know I personally really like going to the boy's games
and supporting them and cheering them on,” player Lauren Madigan said.

“We support each other on and off the court,” John Rooney

They have the chance to do something no other school in
Section II can this season.

“For both of us to have a chance at a state championship is
awesome,” JT Sawyer said.

Several of the girls know what it's like to hoist up the
championship trophy.

“In 2012, it was a great team,” Laura McGreevey said. “They
were awesome. I was actually cheering them on.”

But none of the boys on the current roster know that feeling
which can bring on some friendly competition.

“I think they want to prove to everyone that it's not just
the girls' side of the program,” Madigan said.

“We definitely want to match the girls,” Mike Pierre echoed.

There's even a feeling of envy at times.

“They really know how to get up and down the court,” girls'
coach Walter Dorman said. “They know how to score, and they know how to finish.
If I could take that from them and put it on my team, that'd be one thing I'd

“They have games where they give other teams only ten points
the whole game,” Sawyer said. “It's definitely fun to watch them play defense.
If we could do that then it'd be impossible to beat us.”

But whether it's the girls team or the boys team, the one
thing that matters is an Indian's victory.

The boys will play at 5 p.m. Friday at the Glens Falls Civic
Center, and the girls will play Saturday at Hudson Valley Community College.
