HVCC gets battle buddy plaque for new center

TROY, N.Y. — In the
military, a battle buddy is someone service men and women can count on to help
them both in and out of combat.

At Hudson Valley Community
College, every veteran has a battle buddy to help them dedicate their time to
studying.

Today the New York State
Industries for the Disabled presented the college's armed forces study room
with a battle buddies plaque, officially making it a battle buddy center.

It's designed to be a
place where student veterans can go to escape the hustle and bustle of the rest
of campus, allowing them to focus on school work and finding a job.

The battle buddy room is
dedicated in memory of Staff Sergeant Derek Farely who was killed in Afghanistan.
His mother Carrie played a big role in opening the armed forces study room, and
was at the ceremony.
