Snow, rain lead to increased danger of roof collapse

ALBANY, N.Y. — With the recent snow and freezing rain in the Capital Region, fire officials say there is a greater chance of a roof collapse with little to no warning at all.

If you are worried about your own home, Pittstown Fire Rescue says the best way to prevent a collapse is keep an eye on the warning signs.

Signs include:

  • Recent cracks in drywall or masonry
  • Buckling interior walls
  • Heads pushed down below ceiling tiles
  • Doors and windows that are difficult to open

If you notice any of these signs, contact your local building inspector, fire department, or an engineer to check it out.
