Brief truce in Ukraine shattered

ALBANY, N.Y.– Violence erupted in Ukraine, shattering a brief truce
between protestors and the Ukraine government.

Since the brief truce ended, the head of the protesters'
medical service says more than one hundred people have been killed in clashes,
and hundreds more have been injured.

A diplomat said the European Union's foreign ministers have
decided to impose sanctions against officials in Ukraine who are held
responsible for the violence there.

The sanctions the ministers unanimously approved include a
travel ban to the 28-nation bloc and freezing the officials' assets in the
European countries.

The White House says the US is outraged by violence in
Ukraine and is urging President Viktor Yanukovych to withdraw forces from
downtown Kiev immediately.
