Vermont State Police investigate possible shooting, one arrested

HUBBARDTON,
Vt., – Vermont State Police are investigating an incident after two men were
found dead outside a home on Wednesday.

According to authorities, police responded to a report of a
possible shooting around 1:47 p.m. Upon arrival to the Vermont Route 30 residence,
two male subjects were confirmed deceased outside. Authorities say the victims
sustained injuries consistent with gunshot wounds. However, a final confirmation
will be made through an autopsy.

Vermont State Police say a
preliminary investigation led them to believe 70-year-old Sylvester Labartino
may have been involved in the incident. Around 2:22 p.m. authorities witnessed
Labartino's vehicle driving on VT Route 30 in Castleton. The man was detained pending further
investigation.

Upon
further investigation, State Police arrested Labartino on Thursday on two counts of 2nd degree murder. He was
remanded to Marble Valley Regional Correctional Facility in lieu of $1,000,000
bail. He will be arraigned on Thursday.

Vermont State
Police are asking anyone who may have seen a white Ford Bronco II, Labartino's
vehicle, with Vermont registration EMM973, during the afternoon on Wednesday in
the areas of Hubbardton, Castleton, or Fair Haven, to please contact the state
