Man pleads guilty to starting fire at Albany Med

ALBANY, N.Y.—An Albany man pleaded guilty on Thursday to starting a fire at Albany Medical Center.

Michael Mcallister, 54, pleaded guilty to one Count of Arson in the Second Degree, one Count of Burglary in the Third Degree, and one Count of Criminal Mischief in the Second Degree, all felonies.

On August 9, 2013, Mcallister entered a building at Albany Med and started a fire by igniting paper, a chair, and other items that were in his vicinity. As members of the Albany Fire Department arrived, Mcallister approached them and admitted to starting the fire.

Mcallister remains in custody of the Albany County Correctional Facility while awaiting sentencing. He faces nine years in State Prison followed by five years of Post Release Supervision.
