ALBANY, N.Y. — A home health aide has been arrested on charges of allegedly stealing from a client that she was hired to care for, according to the Albany County Sheriff's office.
On Thursday, January 30, members of the Albany County Sheriff's Criminal Investigation Unit arrested Krystal Jane Hartley, 27, of Green Island. The Sheriff's office said at the time she was an employee of Adept Health Care, located in the City of Troy.
The case began when a 75-year-old resident of the Village of Green Island noticed several fraudulent charges made on her Pioneer Master Card and contacted the Green Island Police Department to report that her identity had been stolen.
The Green Island Police Department contacted Sheriff's Investigators when they realized that the fraud had occurred in several areas located outside their jurisdiction.
The victim reported that her home aide had used her credit card from January 1, 2014 through January 7, 2014, and that the fraudulent purchases were made at Dave and Buster's restaurant at Crossgates Mall in the Town of Guilderland, McDonalds restaurant in the City of Watervliet, Walmart in the Town of Colonie and Juniors Corner Store located in the Village of Green Island. The total dollar amount that was charged to the victim's credit card was $441.28.
Sheriff's Investigators received video surveillance from Dave and Buster's showing Hartley purchasing items at their store with the victim's credit card.
She turned herself into Sheriff's Investigator's with her attorney and was processed and arraigned in the Town of Guilderland Court. She was charged with felony Forgery, misdemeanor Identity Theft, and misdemeanor Petit Larceny.
Hartley was arraigned in the Town of Guilderland Court and was released on her own recognizance.
The Albany County Sheriff's Office is asking that anyone who might have had contact with Hartley through Adept Health Care and believe that they might have been a victim of identity theft to contact the Albany County Sheriff's Office at (518)765-2351.
