SUNY Chancellor meets with President Obama at education summit

ALBANY, N.Y. – SUNY Chancellor Nancy Zimpher joined President Barack Obama in Washington D.C. on Thursday to discuss college affordibility and access.

 Zimpher was one of the higher education leaders President Obama invited to Washington. He said the goal of the summit is to have college leaders take steps to expand access to higher education. 

 Zimpher highlighted SUNY's agenda for the President and First Lady Michelle Obama.

President Obama said he also has a plan for higher education.

“I've laid out a plan to bring down costs and make sure that students are not saddled with debt before they even start out in life,” said the President.

Obama announced millions of dollars in private commitments to help low-income students.
Chancellor Zimpher said she looks forward to building upon SUNY's successful access, and continuing to model them for the nation.
