ALBANY — There is another new start date for the corruption retrial of former Senate majority leader Joe Bruno.

Court documents released last week report that both prosecutors and Bruno's defense team have agreed to begin a jury trial on the morning of May 5.

That's a full-week earlier than the date both sides agreed on last month.

Originally, Bruno's retrial would have been underway by Christmas, but his attorneys successfully petitioned to get the date moved back while the 84-year old recovered from cancer surgery.

In 2009, Bruno was convicted on two federal counts, but both were overturned on appeal.

Under the latest indictment, prosecutors say Bruno accepted more than $400,000 in kickbacks from a businessman for helping with state grants.
