MALTA, N.Y. – An early morning fire has completely destroyed
a Dunkin Donuts in Malta.
Officials said the call for the fire on Dunning Street came
in just before 3 a.m. Thursday. Multiple crews responded, and it took several hours
for the fire to be knocked down.
A cause for the fire is still under investigation, but Malta
Ridge Fire Chief said it appeared the fire started in the back of the building
near the ovens.
The owner of the Dunkin' Donuts said he had the building
built ten years ago, and it was recently remodeled.
The store was not open at the time the fire began, but at
least one employee was inside but got out safely.
The restaurant also operated as a manufacturing facility
that delivered doughnuts to surrounding stores. There were also offices in the
back of the building.
The Dunkin' Donuts has been deemed a total loss. The fire
has been put out but crews were still working on hot spots Thursday morning.
Cold weather and ice made it difficult for crews to put out the blaze.
