Police: Teen resists arrest, pepper sprays several people at local mall

GUILDERLAND,
N.Y. – A 17-year-old Albany resident has been arrested after police say she
pepper sprayed several people at the Macy's in Crossgates Mall.

Rayonna
Ward was arrested and faces numerous charges after police say she resisted Loss
Prevention officers attempting to detain her, spraying pepper spray. The spray
hit two Loss Prevention officers, a Macy's employee and a shopper.

Ward
was taken into custody by Loss Prevention with the help of an off duty law
enforcement officer. The officer suffered a lacerated wrist during the
apprehension.

She
faces the following charges:

  • Four
    counts of Assault in the second-degree
  • Petit
    Larceny
  • Burglary
    in the third-degree
  • Criminal
    Possession of Burglary Tools
  • Resisting
    Arrest
  • Reckless
    Endangerment in the second-degree
  • Unlawfully
    Possessing Noxious Material
  • Criminal
    Nuisance in the second-degree

She
also had two outstanding warrants, one from the Town of Guilderland for Petit
Larceny and False Personation, and another from the City of Albany for False
Personation.
