Former state employee pleads guilty to falsely obtaining Medicaid benefits

ALBANY, N.Y. – A former New York State Department of Health employee has pleaded guilty to one count of Offering False Instrument for Filing in the 1st Degree, a felony.

Ahmad Hussain, 29, admitted to obtaining $23,624.31 in Medicaid benefits from the Albany County Department of Social Services that he was not entitled to receive.

Hussain was a full-time employee with the NYS DoH at the time but concealed his employment and income on a number of occasions to recertify his eligibility for Medicaid benefits. 

According to District Attorney David Soares, the Colonie man obtained the benefits between November 1, 2010 and November 1, 2012.

An investigation conducted by the Albany County Sheriff's Office and the Albany County Department of Social Services led to Hussain's arrest on June 20, 2013.
He faces 5 years of Felony Probation and must perform 300 hours of community service within six months when he is sentenced on January 30, 2014. 
Hussain must also pay restitution in the amount of $23,624.31 back to the Albany County Department of Social Services before his sentencing date. As he pleaded guilty on Friday morning, he paid about $21,000 of the restitutioin.
