JOHNSTOWN, NY – The Johnstown Fire Department responded to a
fire call at 119 S. Melcher St. today at 1:45 p.m.
There were no injuries. Fire was contained to the attic, but
there is major water damage in the upstairs apartment. The structure is a
two-family residence, with an apartment downstairs and one upstairs.
The fire was knocked down in approximately 20 minutes. The
building is now uninhabitable, but not a total loss.
The Gloversville Fire Department assisted. And the Red Cross
is helping the displaced residents.
The cause of the fire is believed to be accidental, with an
electrical problem being investigated before the fire.
