Sheriff: Wanted man leads authorities on chase, found hiding under relative’s bed

GLENS FALLS, N.Y. – The Washington
County Sheriff's Office says they have located a suspect who was involved in a
pursuit on Thursday.

Sheriff Jeffery Murphy
says late Thursday night, deputies tried to stop a vehicle being operated by a
male wanted for petit larceny and assault in Glens Falls. The male and a female passenger fled the area
in the car. This resulted in a chase that went through four towns.

According to authorities,
when the suspect made it into Vermont, he fled, which resulted in a search.

On Friday, deputies
continued to investigate and attempted to locate 25-year-old David Lewis. The
Fort Edward man was not in his home when it was searched earlier in the
day. However, authorities determined a
resident lied during the investigation about giving Lewis a ride from the
location before patrols arrived to the scene.

The resident, Shawn Hart,
41, was arrested and charged with 1 count of Hindering Prosecution, a
misdemeanor. He was issued an appearance
ticket.

Deputies search one of Lewis'
relative's homes on Coon Lane in Salem. Lewis was found in the home, hiding
under a bed. He was taken into custody without incident.

He has been processed and
is facing numerous Penal Law and vehicle and traffic charges, according to authorities. He was being held on Friday pending arraignment.

An arrest of a relative
who lied to deputies is currently pending.

The Sheriff's Office
was assisted by Hudson Falls PD, Whitehall PD, Fair Haven Police, Castleton
Police, New York and Vermont State Police.
