SCHENECTADY, N.Y. – Schenectady Police say they have arrested a suspect in connection to  Tuesday night's fatal shooting of an Albany man near Mont Pleasant Middle School.

The suspect is being held without bail on charges unrelated to the shooting, according to police. No other information is being released at this time.

On Tuesday night, 24-year-old William Riddick was located in a vehicle at around midnight in the area of 1121 Forest Road with a gunshot wound to the head.

According to authorities, a second man was in that vehicle and suffered minor injuries.

Riddick was behind the wheel of a car when he was shot in the head and he lost control of the vehicle, running into a fence near a field on the Mont Pleasant Middle School property and then stopped in a nearby parking lot.

The second car involved was seen nearby, and police were attempting to locate the vehicle on Wednesday.

Mont Pleasant Middle School was still in session Tuesday without any delays. However, the school was on lockdown as a precaution following the shooting.

No one is in custody related to this incident. Police are not sure if the incident was random.

Detectives and officers are still investigating the incident.
