Police: Albany shooting victim dies, homicide investigation underway

ALBANY, N.Y. – Police confirmed late Saturday afternoon that an Albany man has died after a shooting early in the morning.

Albany Police say they received a call of shots fired in the area of Washington Avenue and Cortland Place around 3:10 a.m.

Shortly after the initial report, Albany Medical Staff contacted authorities that a man walked into the ER with a gunshot wound. Police determined the two calls were related.

That man, 26-year old Edward Maxim, died at the hospital.

A homicide investigation is underway as police search for a suspect.

Anyone with information is asked to call the Albany Police Detective Division at (518) 462-8039

“It's not anything that anybody wants in their
town,” said Nicholas Desantis of Albany.

Desantis says he heard
commotion and noise outside his window early Saturday morning.

“I hear something loud
that's what woke me up and then I heard the cop sirens. I can't believe it
happened 100 yards from my front door. I mean it's pretty crazy,” said Desantis.

Neighbor Anthony Brown was also shocked
by the news of a shooting so close to his home.

 “Albany is notorious for
murder but you know a murder so close to home. It's a little crazy,” said Brown.

“It's horrible. It's a
tragedy. Absolutely. I mean somebody that young,” said Desantis.

Brown says he's lived in Albany since he
was 13 and has lost two friends to violence in the city.

“I live by the code of the
streets. I ain't gonna snitch. Death before dishonor. So whatever happened
that's between them. I don't get involved in none of that. That's basically the life
around Albany. Live by the streets you gonna die by the streets,” said Brown.
