Man faces 5 charges plus violations after allegedly driving into a Chatham home

CHATHAM, N.Y. – One man was arrested for DWI after he
allegedly drove into a home.

State Police in New Lebanon say they responded to a call for
a pickup truck which crashed into a resident on Railroad Avenue around 2:30
a.m.

As Troopers arrived they found he driver was attempting to
flee the scene.  However, he was
apprehended after a brief foot pursuit.

According to authorities, Louis VanAlstyne Jr., 46, has been
charged with Driving While Intoxicated, Refusal to Take Breath Test, Leaving
the Scene of a Property Damage Accident, Speed Not Reasonable and Prudent,
Failure to Keep Right and multiple other vehicle and traffic law violations.

VanAlstyne was uninjured and refused
medical attention at the scene of the accident.

State Police say no one was home at the
time of the accident.

The man was arraigned in the Town of
Ghent Court and was remanded to Columbia County Jail in lieu of $5000.00 cash
or $10,000 bond.

VanAlstyne will be back in the Village of
Chatham Court on October 22, 2013 at 7:00 PM.
