AVERILL PARK, N.Y. – Six people, including five students, were taken to the hospital Friday morning after an Averill Park school bus was involved in a minor accident.

Superintendent Dr.
James Hoffman says a parent who was dropping off three students to the high school rear-ended the bus at the intersection
of Route 43 and Gettle Road, near the high school.

The bus was carrying about 35 middle
school and high school students at the time of the accident. Five students from
the bus – three middle school and two high school students – and the bus driver were taken to
the hospital as a precaution, as they had minor complaints. The parent and the three
students in the car were not injured.

The bus only received a small scratch on the bumper. An
adult aide on the bus said it was a very minor hit and only felt like a bump
when it happened.

Another school bus was sent to the scene to finish
transporting the uninjured students to the high school and middle school, as the
affected bus needs to be expected by DOT before it can be used again.

All parents were notified of the accident, including the
parents of students who were not affected.
