Cardiac kids picnic celebrates new law

REXFORD, N.Y. – On Saturday in Rexford there will be a celebration for a legislation passed earlier this year in New York State.

From 10 a.m. to noon at the Riverview Orchard, The Cardiac Kids picnic will celebrate the Pulse Ox Bill.  This bill will now make it mandatory for hospitals to give newborns a pulse oximetry test before they are discharged.  The NYS Government Relations Director for the American Heart Associate says this will detect low level oxygen in a baby's bloodstream which could be a sign of congenital heart defect.

Families with children who were born with congenital heart defects will be at Saturday's event to celebrate the law's passage.
