SCHENECTADY, N.Y. — The suspect connected to the deadly shooting on Becker Street in Schenectady in August was arraigned Thursday morning on multiple felony charges including murder.

Schenectady Police arrested 28-year-old Emmanuel Martinez in Brooklyn on Wednesday for the alleged shooting death of 24-year-old Jose “Mikey” Torres on August 30th during a family gathering at 1633 Becker Street.

Martinez has been charged with second-degree Murder, Attempted Murder, Assault, Reckless Endangerment, and Criminal Possession of a Weapon — all felony charges.

He pleaded not guilty in court Thursday morning and was remanded to jail without bail.

Police say Torres was fatally wounded by a gunshot wound to his torso and a second victim, 31-year old Luis Gomez, was treated for a wound to his shoulder area. Authorities say the two victims are brothers and were attending a family celebration at the scene of the shooting. Police say the suspect opened fire striking Torres and his brother.

About 20 family members of the victim came to court on Thursday, including Gomez, saying justice will be served.

“I wanted to look [Martinez] in the face and show him that we are still out here and my baby brother still lives on through us,” said Gomez. “His name will never be forgotten and will always be mentioned.”

According to police, Martinez is also being held on a warrant out of Schenectady for Robbery, Grand Larceny, Assault, and Criminal Mischief.
