Kobe the missing alligator has been found

NEW LEBANON, N.Y. — The animal control officer in New Lebanon handling the case of Kobe, the missing alligator, says they have found the reptile.

New Lebanon Animal Control Officer Wes Powell says Rhonda's Reptiles, a reptile rescue business in the town, lost the three-foot American alligator on August 22nd when Kobe got out of his cage.

According to Powell, the owner retrieved the gator from a local pond after someone tipped her off it may be in the water.

Kobe's owner, Rhonda Leavitt, put him in a temporary cage while she cleaned his permanent one,  something she says is done hundreds of times.

Leavitt says she believes her pet was stolen while she was cleaning out the alligator's cage. She says this has been a stressful experience to say the
least and will be taking extra security measures.

“I will have cameras all over my property. All the
animals will be microchipped. It will not happen again,” she said.

Police say there is a person of interest and
charges are pending.
