Another Uncle Sam statue vandalized in Troy

TROY, N.Y. – Police say another Uncle Sam statue in downtown Troy has been vandalized.

Around 6:30 a.m. Thursday, Troy Police say they were notified about a statue's missing head from staff at Bruegger's Bagel Bakery on Congress Street. Police say the head had been forcibly removed from the statue in that vicinity.

Police say they recovered the head and will turn it over to the downtown Troy Business Improvement District Office.

On Monday, the head of the “Rainbow Uncle Sam” statue on Fourth Street was knocked off and stolen. Previously in June,
the “Annotated Uncle Sam” was also beheaded after a Watervliet man knocked it
over as he was trying to steal it.

No arrests have been made at this time. Troy detectives are investigating.

It has
been five months since the City of Troy unveiled 30 Uncle Sam fiberglass
statues placed throughout the city decorated by artists and school
children, known as “The Uncle Sam Project.”
