ALBANY, N.Y. — A state senator is asking people to sign a petition calling for a statewide animal abuse registry.

Senator Greg Ball says the sentencing Tuesday of Anthony Walker, the man who admitted to dumping the so-called “Railroad Puppies” in Albany, proves the need for a statewide animal abuse registry. Walker was sentenced to six months in jail, however he walked free after court because he has already served eight months.

The registry would contain the names and addresses of persons convicted of violating Buster's Law in New York State. Ball says a registry would prevent repeat offenders.

The animal abuse registry bill passed the state Senate this year, but later failed in the Assembly.
