FORT PLAIN, N.Y. – A homeless man has
been arrested by the Fort Plain Police Department on numerous charges including
rape and endangering the welfare of a child.

David Dennis, 30, who reported his
status as homeless, was charged after officers learned that Dennis had been having
sexual contact with a 14-year-old girl on a repeated basis, in and around Fort
Plain. Investigators learned that he broke into an unoccupied residence in the
village while having contact with the victim.

He faces the following charges:

  • Criminal Sexual Act in the Second
    Degree – D Felony
  • Rape in the Second Degree – D Felony
  • Burglary in the Second Degree – C
    Felony
  • Endangering the Welfare of a Child –
    A Misdemeanor

Dennis was also recently arrested for
attempting to gain access to the Red Cross Flood Relief Shelter established at
the Harry Hoag Elementary School in Fort Plain.
Alert personnel believed he had falsely declared that he did not have to
report as being a registered sex offender, when in fact he is.

He was arraigned in court and
remanded to the county jail. A mug shot of Dennis is not available as the Fort Plain Police Department has also been displaced by recent flooding in the area.
