Soldier getting medal for heroism in Schenectady County

GLENVILLE, N.Y. (AP) – A member of the New York Army National Guard is being awarded a medal for saving the life of a fellow soldier while on a mission in Afghanistan.
The state Division of Military and Naval Affairs says Sgt. Joshua Young will receive the Bronze Star for valor during a ceremony being held Friday afternoon at the Scotia-Glenville Armed Forces Reserve Center in Schenectady County.
National Guard officials say the resident of the Rochester suburb of Perinton was serving with a bomb disposal unit based at Fort Drum when the soldiers came under enemy fire on March 16, 2012. Young repeatedly exposed himself to enemy fire to rescue a soldier who had been severely wounded by an enemy mortar round.
Young is currently assigned to the Glenville-based 1018th Ordnance Company.
