BETHLEHEM, N.Y. – New York State Police stopped a vehicle for speeding in the town of Bethlehem on Wednesday only to discover one kilogram of heroin in the car.
Police say they received an anonymous tip that a car traveling on I-87 may be transporting a large amount of illegal drugs. State Police observed a vehicle matching the
description which was speeding, stopped the car and beginning speaking to the driver, 27-year-old Miguel Hemenegildo from Jackson Heights.
Through their investigation, State Police
allegedly discovered a hidden compartment located inside the vehicle which contained
approximately 1 kilogram of heroin (2.2 lbs).
Hemenegildo was arrested and charged with Criminal
Possession of a Controlled Substance 1st-degree, speeding, and other Vehicle and Traffic Law charges. He
is currently being held without bail in the Albany County Jail.
