Driver faces several charges after Thruway stop

GUILDERLAND, N.Y. – State Police say a concerned citizen's report of an out-of-control motorist speeding on the state Thruway Thursday led to the arrest of Middleburgh man on several charges.  

Troopers said they received the report of vehicle speeding eastbound on I-90 just before 7 p.m. When troopers ran the license plate, they found the car had been reported stolen earlier that morning.

Troopers estimated 25-year-old Darren H. LaRose was travelling 85 mph in a 65 mph zone, when they caught up with, pulled over and took him into custody.

In a closer investigation into LaRose, troopers found that he was under the influence of drugs and operating the grey Toyota Camry with a suspended license.

LaRose was charged with Criminal Possession of Stolen Property in the 3rd degree, Driving While Ability Impaired by Drugs, and Aggravated Unlicensed Operation in the 3rd degree. 

He was remanded to the Albany County Jail and was arraigned Friday morning in the City of Albany Court. He is being held without bail until Monday July 15, when he will return to Albany City Court for a felony hearing.
