LATHAM, N.Y. — Starting Friday, June 14, motorists will only be able to use a single lane of the Latham Circle roundabout. The closure is expected to last about two months.
Route 2 leading into the circle from the west and east will also be reduced to a single lane starting Friday evening.
The lane closures are part of previously announced work to renovate the decks of the Latham Circle bridge that carries Route 2 (Troy Schenectady Road) over Route 9. The circle is expected to reopen to two lanes by the end of August. Additional minor work on Route 2 may be needed after that, which could result in temporary lane closures.
A detour is already in place that prohibits trucks from using the circle except for deliveries to businesses in the immediate vicinity. Trucks must obey all posted weight restrictions on local highways.
The DOT is reminding drivers that fines are doubled for speeding in a work zone and convictions of two or more speeding violations in a work zone could result in the suspension of an individual's driver's license
