DALTON, Mass. – Family, friends and supporters will gather to remember and honor a Berkshire County soldier killed in the line of duty during his wake on Thursday.
Calling hours for 24-year-old U.S. Army Specialist Mitchell Daehling, of Dalton, are held Thursday from 4 to 7 p.m. at Saint Anges Church in Dalton, Mass.
Funeral services will be held Friday at 11 a.m. at Saint Anges Church.
His body arrived at Barnes Air National Guard Airport in Westfield Wednesday morning. The hearse then traveled to Pittsfield to a procession filled with American flags down North Street accompanied by the Patriot Guard, to Dery Funeral Home in Pittsfield.
Daehling was one of three soldiers killed May 14, 2013 by an IED in Afghanistan. He had only bee there four-months when killed.
Family says Daehling was a kind, compassionate, all-around great guy, who enlisted shortly after his grandfather's death looking to follow in his footsteps.
