State Police hold honors ceremony in Albany

ALBANY, N.Y. (AP) – New York State Police have awarded the agency's highest award for bravery to a trooper who fatally shot an armed intruder while investigating a home invasion in the Hudson Valley last year.
Trooper Daniel Hoffman of Troop K in Poughkeepsie received the Brummer Award Thursday during the 37th Annual Awards Day Ceremony and Memorial Service at the State Police Academy in Albany.
Hoffman and another trooper were investigating a report of a home invasion in the town of LaGrange last May when one of the five intruders hit Hoffman with a sawed-off rifle. Hoffman shot and killed the man as the other suspects fled. They were all caught in a dragnet of officers from four counties.
More than 20 other honors were awarded to troopers, investigators and civilian employees.
