Swabbing event held in Watervliet to help ‘Spread the News for a Cure’

WATERVLIET, N.Y. – The Watervliet Cannon Barrel Pub joined forces with NEWS CENTER's Lydia Kulbida to help “Spread the News for a Cure” on Saturday.

A swabbing event where anyone between the ages of 18 and 44 could dedicate five minutes of their time to having a quick swab of their mouth in order to be added into the Be the Match registry was held at the pub from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m.

The event is all part of Lydia's ten-week fundraising campaign for The Leukemia and Lymphoma Society (LLS), the world's largest voluntary health organization dedicating to funding blood cancer research.

A nighttime event was also held from 5 p.m. until midnight at the pub featuring live music.

Here's how you can join Lydia in making a difference:

→ Business owners have various sponsorship levels from $1,000 to $7,500 that include tickets to the Grand Finale Program on May 10th and an ad in the Program book; program ads only are available for $250 and $500; donations of goods or gift certificates for gift baskets auctioned off at the Grand Finale Program; setting aside proceeds from a day or sale of certain items during the 10-week campaign.
