TROY, N.Y. – April is National Sexual Assault Awareness month, and a local hospital held a community march against rape and sexual violence on Saturday.

The Sexual Assault & Crime Victims Assistance Program for Rensselaer County at Samaritan Hospital hosted the 6th annual Walk a Mile in Her Shoes march, and men participating in the event were challenged to show support for victims by literally walking a mile in women's high-heeled shoes.

“They say it takes a village to raise a child. By the same token, it takes a community – a community of support – to stand up and wage a battle against sexual assault and violence,” said Lisa Smith, director of the Sexual Assault & Crime Victims Assistance Program at Samaritan Hospital.
