ALBANY, N.Y. –The 6th annual Brink 5K run and walk was held in Albany Saturday to honor the memory of fallen state trooper David Brinkerhoff.
Brinkerhoff, who was killed by friendly fire during a standoff with a fugitive named Travis Trim at a house in the Town of Margaretville, was a UAlbany graduate who actively volunteered as an EMT with Five Squad, the student-run rescue squad.
“My son died a hero, doing what police officers do every day, in every city, town and village around the world: protecting others from those who would do them harm. Before that, as a volunteer EMT at UAlbany, he raced to help the injured in their moment of need. The Brink 5K is a wonderful tribute to his memory, and the scholarship, which I look forward to helping present, ensures that his legacy will live on forever,” said Brinkerhoff's mother, Karen Howard.
The event featured a picnic, prize giveaways, children's activities and the first presentation of the David C. Brinkerhoff Memorial Scholarship.
