ALBANY, N.Y. — A 19-year-old SUNY Albany student was charged with Driving While Intoxicated after colliding with an Albany police vehicle.
On Saturday at 2 a.m., a marked Albany police car was on routine patrol traveling southbound when it was struck by a vehicle at the intersection of Ontario and Mercer Streets.
According to police, the driver of the second vehicle, Rory Edelson, 19, failed to stop at a stop sign and collided with the officers. During the course of the investigation, Edelson was found to be intoxicated and in possession of a forged driver's license.
Both officers were treated at the scene by Albany Fire Department personnel and transported to Albany Medical Center with minor injuries. They have since been released.
Edelson was charged with Driving While Intoxicated and Possession of a Forged Instrument. He was also cited for Failure to Stop at a Stop Sign.
He was arraigned Saturday morning in the Albany City Criminal Court.
