COLONIE, N.Y. – The Colonie Police Department has arrested a couple allegedly responsible for a stabbing at a home on Birch Tree Road early Saturday morning.

Police have arrested 33-year-old Elias Deligiannia and his girlfriend 28-year-old Janell Schwanke, both of 1980 Western Avenue in Guilderland, after police encountered them both leaving the scene covered in blood.

Officers responded to 17 Birch Tree Road where both were seen attempting to leave the scene. Police say Deligiannia had facial injuries and a laceration to his hand.

Inside the home, officers found the homeowner and victim 48-year-old Raymond Klein, with a total of seven stab wounds to his head, back and arms, resulting in a collapsed lung.

It was determined all three had been out together and returned to Klein's home when a physical altercation began between the two men. Police say that's when Deligiannia produced a knife and stabbed the victim. The reason for the argument was unclear.

Klein was transported to Albany Medical Center and has since been released.

The knife believed to be used in the incident was found in Schwanke's purse. She has been charged with tampering with physical evidence, a felony.

Deligiannia has been charged with first-degree Assault and Criminal Possession of a Weapon, both felonies. They have both been remanded to Albany County Correctional Facility.
