Fulton Co. Sheriff’s K-9’s receive bulletproof vests

FULTON COUNTY, N.Y. – After an outpouring of donations, three police K-9's at the Fulton County Sheriff's Office no longer have to share one bulletproof vest.

They were able to purchase the necessary vests, which cost about $700 each. Donations have been so abundant, they are starting a K-9 Emergency Medical fund. They will continue to build this fund over the next few months, and donations can be sent to P.O. Box 20 Johnstown, NY 12095.

Sheriff Thomas J. Lorey released the following statement on the purchase, “I'm pleased to report that during the last several days our law enforcement K-9 Team has gathered substantial support as the result of the fundraising efforts of Deputies Wayne Peters and Justin Loomis and the membership of the Fulton County Sheriff's Association. As many know our K-9 program is not funded by tax dollars and its existence relies solely on the generosity of the public. It is now through that generosity and in anticipation of the receipt of another donation from an area business that we are able to move to purchase three new ballistic vests for our K-9's, Max, Samantha and Dax.

In addition, we're now able to secure three portable emergency trauma kits to ensure the very best level of protection for our canines in the event of the unforeseen. To everyone who has supported our K-9 program both recently and in the past – thank you for your help in making sure that our canines can continue to remain available to respond in and around our community 24/7.”
