Assembly budget proposal includes $25 million for DREAM Act

ALBANY, N.Y. — The state
assembly's new budget proposal includes $25 million dollars to fund the New
York State DREAM Act.

The act would help college
students who came to this country illegally when they were young children.

Under the proposal, students
would be eligible for the tuition assistance program if they, among other things,
attended a New York high school for two or more years, applied to a state
college less than five years after receiving a high school equivalency diploma,
or are eligible for in-state tuition at SUNY, city universities or community
