ALBANY, N.Y. – Friday marks the 9th annual Blue
Friday, an official state day to recognize fallen law enforcement and support
their families.

“It is so tragic that
between 140 and 160 officers are killed nationwide in the line of duty every
year,” Senator Hugh T. Farley (R, C, I – Schenectady) said. ‘It is not only a
loss to their families but to the communities that they served.”

Blue Friday is a 501c3 organization that benefits the survivors
of police officers who lost their lives in the line of duty. The holiday resolution
was passed by state Sen. Farley in 2005.

Several locations in the Capital Region will be
participating in the day. The Hannaford's at Wolf Road and Sand Creek Road, the
Uno Chicago Grill in Saratoga off of the Northway at Exit 15, and the Holiday
Inn Express at 300 Broadway in Albany will be selling merchandise and taking
donations.

Supporters can make a general donation or purchase official
Blue Friday gear at any of the above locations from 6 a.m. until 10 a.m.
