Albany parking permit grace period ends

ALBANY,
N.Y. — The city of Albany has already issued its first parking tickets to
drivers who violated the new parking permit system, and Friday was the first
day the grace period expired.

Without a
permit, there is a 2-hour limit in three parking zones within a three-quarter
mile radius of the Empire State Plaza.

When time
expired, the $50 tickets were handed out.

The
permit system has been talked about for years and is designed to ease the
competition between state workers and city residents.

Until Friday,
warnings had been handed out, and more than a thousand of those were issued.
