RENSSELAER, N.Y. — A
Rensselaer man who stole a women's pocketbook from a shopping cart in the days
before Christmas has been arrested.

During their investigation of
the theft, officers identified James Karlquist, 22, of Washington Avenue, through
people who know him, after surveillance tape of the theft was broadcast on local
news television.

In the tape, Karlquist's
pickup truck could be seen as he drove up to the shopping cart and lifted the
purse. Other witnesses stepped forward in support of what the surveillance tape
shows.

Karlquist was booked at
police headquarters late Thursday afternoon on charges of Grand Larceny 4th-Degree
and Petit Larceny. He was arraigned in Town Court and released to Probation
Department Day Reporting pending his next court appearance.
