QUEENSBURY, N.Y. – The Glens Falls library assistant arrested Thursday has now been suspended from her job, and Warren County Sheriff's continue the investigation into her alleged sexual activity with a 15-year-old.
Director of the Crandall Public Library, Kathy Naftaly says 33-year-old Abby Berkheimer, now charged with Rape, Criminal Sexual Act, and Endangering the Welfare of a Child has been suspended from her job as assistant librarian in the Library's teen section.
Naftaly told NEWS10 Berkheimer is suspended for the time being with pay, and the library is conducting its own investigation as police continue theirs.
The Warren County Sheriff's Office continues to investigate and has come up with a few challenges.
“We want to talk to some other people,” said Lt. Steven Stockdale with the Warren County Sheriff's Office.
But Lt. Stockdale would not elaborate Friday on exactly who those other people would be but did say that Berkheimer and the 15-year old boy had sexual interactions in both Queensbury and Glens Falls.
“There's going to be some follow up regarding some jurisdiction issues in this case. We know that there was some activity in the town of Queensbury and we also know that there was some activity in Glens Falls,” said Lt. Stockdale Warren County Sheriff's office.
Lt. Stockdale was less than pleased
with some local talk about the case Friday, saying it's unfair how some are
categorizing it because the alleged victim is a boy.
“I can tell you that you'll
never hear a 15 year old female rape victim be referred to as lucky and you
know I've had several people make the comment that this kid was lucky and
that's not the truth,” said Stockdale.
The Warren County Sheriff's Office is asking if anyone has any information or could also be a victim to call 518-743-2500.
