SCHENECTADY, N.Y. – The Schenectady Police Department is investigating a stabbing of a taxi cab driver that occurred in the area of Eastern Avenue and Nott Terrace.
The victim called 911 just before 7 p.m. and reported that he had been stabbed and was in the area of Liberty Street, within the City of Schenectady. The victim was located a short time later near the Schenectady County Library, located at the corner of Liberty and Clinton.
Police say the victim, now being identified as Derek Leach, 28, was treated on scene for stab wounds to the face, arm and back by members of the Schenectady Fire Department and then airlifted to Albany Med.
Leach operated a cab for Glove City Taxis and had transported a fare from Johnstown to Schenectady. It is not known at this time if the fare was the perpetrator in the crime or if another individual was involved. Leach's injuries are not considered life threatening.
Leach was airlifted to Albany Medical Center where he is currently in stable condition, police say.
The situation surrounding the attack is unclear at this time as police continue their investigation.
The suspect is described as a black female, last seen wearing dark clothing. The suspect is still at large and no arrests have been made in connection with this crime.
