ALBANY, N.Y. — One of the big issues facing all lawmakers
in 2013 is gun control, and Saturday many of those who oppose the new gun
control laws in New York will be rallying at the capitol for Guns Across
America.

Saturday is being called Gun Appreciation Day across the
nation, and there will be rallying from L.A.to Washington.

Thousands are expected to descend on the Capital Saturday
afternoon for the Capital Regions rally.

Organizer J.J. Johnson-Smith says she's already heard from
hundreds of gun owners across the state who will be there.

“I knew there were a lot of people out there, but thank god there
are pro constitution and true patriots. This has been amazing in all the years
I've been involved in political issues I've never seen a response like this,”
said Smith.

Smith says she's expecting more than 3,000 people to assemble at
the West side of the capital near Swan Street.  She says some protestors
will be carrying concealed weapons to show their support for their second
amendment right.

“No long guns, we are not encouraging anyone to bring long guns,”
Smith advised.

Smith wants people to know if they're planning on bringing a
concealed weapon, you can have one as long as you are on city sidewalks.
As soon as you step onto state property you cannot have a concealed
weapon.

“We are not anticipating any problems at all,” said Steve Smith
with the Albany Police Department.

Steve Smith says there may not be an increased patrol presence but
officers will be there in case they are needed.

“As with any protest or demonstration around the capital we
respect people's right to protest,” said Joseph A. D'Amico
with the State police.

Albany police say they will close down South Swan Street between State Street and Washington Avenue
will be closed to all vehicular traffic Saturday, between 10:00 a.m. and 5:00 p.m.

Northbound South Swan Street traffic will be diverted
onto State Street eastbound to Eagle Street.

“With the number that are coming, we are going to need the parks
sidewalks,” said organizers of the rally.
