Vermonters are continuing to serve in record numbers

VERMONT – Peace Corp officials say Vermont leads the nation as the top producer of volunteers, with only the District of Columbia producing more.

Since the Peace Corps was created in 1961, more than 1,400 Vermonters have served as volunteers across the world.

The Northeast in general is big on service, with New Hampshire coming in fourth and Maine eighth.

Officials say more than 1,500 people from the northeast are currently serving overseas.
