COEYMANS, N.Y. – A hand-gun and two rifles were recovered during a police search of a residence in the Hamlet of Earlton.
Coeymans Police, conducting an investigation into a burglary and menacing crime that occurred earlier in the Town of Coeymans, were led to obtain a search warrant for a residence on Medway-Earlton Road in the town of Coxsackie.
Members of the Coeymans Police Department, Greene County Sheriff's Office and NYS Parole Officers arrived at the trailer in the pre-dawn hours with a search warrant and an arrest warrant for 27-year-old resident Latrell Seals.
Seals was charged with multiple felonies including burglary, criminal possession of a weapon and menacing.
Greene County Deputies surrounded the trailer, calling out for Seals to surrender himself.
After several minutes, all residents of the trailer, including a number of small children, began exiting the home.
Seals eventually came out of the trailer and was taken into custody without incident.
Resident of the same trailer, Amy Pelton, was taken into custody as a result of the search.
A handgun which was used for earlier criminal purposes in Coeymans was recovered, as well as two rifles.
Seals, who has previous felony convictions, was arraigned before Ravena Village Justice Harold Warner and remanded to Albany County Jail without bail.
Pelton was taken to jail by the parole officers.
The investigation into the case is ongoing and additional charges may result.
“Whenever you are dealing with criminals in possession of firearms, the magnitude of the crime increases exponentially,” commented Coeymans Police Chief Gregory Darlington. “There were five adults and six children in the trailer when officers and deputies went to arrest Seals. Everyone did an outstanding job in ensuring that he was taken into custody and no officers or civilians were injured.”
