NEW YORK – Governor Cuomo has directed flags be flown at half-staff Monday in honor of Lance Corporal Anthony Denier, the Mechanicville marine killed in action last weekend.
Denier died in the Helmand province of Afghanistan on Sunday while in combat.
The 26-year-old was serving his first tour in the country, having just arrived there in October.
His remains arrived back on U.S. soil Tuesday, and will come back to the Capital Region late Monday morning.
A motorcade will then bring Denier to the American Legion Lt. Fred Clark Post in Mechanicville for services at 3 p.m.
Another service for Denier will be held Tuesday morning at 11 at the legion post, followed by burial at Saratoga National Cemetery, with full military honors.
Mechanicville's mayor encourages everyone to line the motorcade route on Monday, holding American flags.
Residents can pick up as many as three small flags at the city's account's office.
