TROY, N.Y. – Thousands of runners hit the pavement for a good cause this year, setting a record 8,200+ turnout for the 65th Annual Troy Turkey Trot.
Thousands of runners take part in this annual tradition in Troy, many hoping to run off dinner. Whether it's in costume or with more of a competitive edge, the spirit of the day unites them all.
The running also did a lot of good for the area, raising more than $12,000 for the Northeast Regional Food Bank, Troy Boys and Girls Club, and the Lansingburgh Boys and Girls Club.
During the 10k 6.2-mile run, which followed an out-and-back course along river street and attracted a record-setting 10k field of 1,123 competitive runners, Kevin Treadway,24, captured the prestigious crown in 31:23.
First across the line in the female division was Kristina Gracey, 29, with a time of 37:04.
In the day's main attraction, the 5k, the first male to hit the 5k finish tape at Monument Square was Macky Lloyd, 22, who tied the 2008 course record of 15:05.
Female bragging rights went to Erin Gillingham, 21, who crossed the tape in 17:59.
