Arrest made in assault of 14-year-old Schenectady boy

SCHENECTADY, N.Y. – The Schenectady Police Department has arrested a man in connection to the gang assault that left a 14-year-old in a medically induced coma.

Police have arrested 20-year-old Alexander Messina, of 818 Crane Street in Schenectady, for allegedly beating the teen so badly he required surgery for head injuries.

According to Schenectady Police Spokesperson Sgt. Matt Dearing, a call came in around 9:45 a.m. Sunday, Nov. 18th, regarding the boy being attacked at the intersection of Congress and Sixth Avenue.

The incident is still under investigation.

Messina is charged with Assault 1st-degree, Gang Assault 1st-degree, both felonies, Criminal Possession of a Weapon 4th, and Endangering the Welfare of a Child, both misdemeanors. He has been remanded to the Schenectady County Jail in lieu of $25,000 bail.
